For those who don’t know mica is a bit hard to come by in some places, I searched in Australia, nothing, found some of decent quality and size in Germany
Hi all, Many thanks for your interest. I will try to answer all questions. But i must express my strong feelings for this Aladdin Model A kerosene lantern. I bought it is a kind madness in the technical drawning lantern. I looked at Neil's Aladdin Model A in CPL gallery for a long time, then i hunted this Aladdin Model A kerosen lantern for several years...... The day i found it was in the middle of the night around AM 3.00 and two weeks later it was on my desk.... What a strange feeling to see her near me now. Answer to questions: I bought in the United States of America an old stock of mica for several globes. The color of this old stock is smoky gray brown with an incredible aged discoloration look it completes the soul of the lantern as on the first day. It should be noted that the old mica sheets is expensive around 90€ for one globe. The frame is made of mid steel tinned with 99,9 % pure tin for a thikness of 0,20 mm or 0,008" the sheets of 300 X 500 mm per set of 10 sheets. That is fantastic, well done! For the verticals steel supports between the panes did you just crimp them tight? On the chimney I bought from Fred there appears to be a spot crimp used. I’ve found some dimple pliers that I think will work but I’ve not started yet.
Hi Scott, I'm rediscovering my subject and I realize that I haven't answered your question. I always make a reinforcement, that is to say a 3 mm flap at the edge of each high and low belt of the globe to stiffen it. Regards, Titoo.
