This is my latest rstoration and my favourite table lamp. It is an elegant addition to the collection and has an original Tilley shade giving it a true period look. Mrs R100 approves so all is well with the world. One odd thing about this lamp which may or may not be correct is that the pump knob is made of a plastic material. It is clearly an original knob but I've only ever seen them on heaters. Possibly war time shortages?
Those pump knobs are, I think, post-war and by a good way. Off the top of my head, I just can't think what it is I've seen them on but probably the bat-wing style pumps...
A grand old Tilley! The most likely explanation is that the pump rod has been changed by a previous owner, the pump cap and knob look like the ones which are fitted to the winged pumps.
I will have to consider whether to replace it with a brass version which I have in stock or just leave it as part of its history.
I suspect that the brass ones are more durable - and you can always put it back if it proves to be original - so you can justify the substitution on the basis of preservation Lovley lamp !
The X246 Guardsman lantern depicted in my photocopy of the 1954 Tilley catalogue shows a black plastic pump knob on an ordinary i.e. wingless pump.
Thanks Henry. I believe the TL10 was discontinued in 1946, but I suppose that Tilley would have had stocks of the plastic knobbed pump prior to 1954.
Hello Henry, yes, that is correct, but those are male threaded pumps, the pumps for the TL-10 lamps have a female thread and I have never seen an illustration with the black plastic knob for one of those nor have I ever had one.
Very nice well fettled a real beauty, you should be proud of yourself, and I do like the black Bakelite knob, what does it matter if it's been charged or not, that's just my 20 cents worth, in the end it's all up to you.

A lovely lamp and you have done a great job fettling it back to life. The TL10 is one of My favourite lamps. My opinion with no facts or documentation to back it up is that the black plastic pump knob is 1950's item and a TL10 should have a Hendon pump with a brass knob. It is your lamp and completely up to you to decide weather to leave as is or modify. Having done such a beautiful job of painting the rest of the lamp I would probably leave it to save getting the paint out again. @JEFF JOHNSON I do have a pump somewhere with a female thread, wingnut type cap and black plastic knob, but I think it should be on a 50's kl80 rather than a tl10
I have winged pump with a female thread on one of my KL-80s, but it has a brass knob, the winged pumps do turn up with both types of knobs.
