Found this on Marketplace yesterday and couldn’t resist at what was a very modest price. Bialaddin 300x in Green. Still in box which is in pretty good shape complete with instructions and a scrap of newspaper that has a couple of reference on it to the 1950’s. There is also a curious little envelope “BATON_FIL - NW SYSTEM” and some hole and tube dimensions. Anyone know what came in the envelope? Washer set perhaps? Though it is very small. Hood is immaculate and the fount paintwork has a small patch of flaked paint by the collar but otherwise is in great shape. Filler cap is fuel varnished solid, any tips on freeing that without risking the paint? Pump leather is still supple, don’t think it will take much to get her running. Nice to have one in original painted condition as I have previously bought wrecks and repainted them.
A lucky find! Wrap a piece of leather or thick cloth around the grips and then gently tighten the filler cap a tad as that often frees them and then unscrew it.
Remarkable find, considering it to be a 70 year old lamp: congratulations Scott! Chromed cage rods and bail nuts, a utility lamp completed from the luxury-bin. But no logo on the glass? Also, it seems to confirm the idea that a meth's can was not included with these lamps. But what a lovely assembly anyway! Please keep the ventilator in good nick by using an experienced one: in this condition they are becoming rare. Mike
There is a green Bialaddin logo on the glass but unfortunately the glass has a chunk out of one edge. Not really noticeable when it’s on the lamp though so will hang onto it but use a base camp replica.
That is too bad, as these glasses were last used on the 300X and 305; the army did not care and surely would not like to pay for such a frill. Despite the damage a very nice item to keep, especially if the damage is not too obvious.
Very nice @Scott D . 6 Greek st in Leeds is a large bar now (like most of that street no I think) - made in Halifax, sent to Leeds and now with you - It is possible that this lantern has never left Yourkshire ! Chris
I think it’s unrelated to the lamp. My best guess based on some quick Googling is that it once contained watch hands.
@Scott D What a great find, with the box too, very nice. I’ve got a similar lamp in original condition, though not quite as nice as yours and no box..
Got her cleaned up a bit and new seals in and away she goes! The paintwork wasn’t quite as pristine as first appeared as it had obviously been used a few times and then left full of fuel so she was well and truly varnished with old fuel inside the fount and then spilt on the exterior in places too. Affected the paintwork on the top of the fount and the filler cap but for the most part she’s in great shape and I’ll leave the paintwork original. On the look out for a new globe, but for now it’s nice to have the original Bialaddin logo and I’m just classing the chipped section as preheating access!
