I guess some of you were watching the Tilley AL7 that recently sold online. I hope the lamp ended up with a forum member! Just in case it didn’t, I had asked the seller for some extra photos of the lamp while still in his possession. Here you go, enjoy...
I never paid that much for any lamp or lantern - but I might have been in the running at one point...
Hum ... When did Tilley stop using the soldered-on little brass shield? ... Early 30's? Looks like a steel tank galvanised or tinned ... i wonder if the baseplate was steel too ? And is that a pressure relief button in the 5th to last pic ?? So many questions...
I have 1940 paper still showing the Tilley shield on donut lamps. Whether or not they actually did have the shield then is anyones guess. It does look like a pressure release rather than a pressure indicator. Well spotted. Question #1 Why are they so rare ?? Short run I know but geeezzzzz.
Thanks @Tony Press I was looking at the shape of the tank and the swage line where the base plate fits ; the rolled out bottom edge is very like the LD1 (of @Anthony ) but the top of the AL7 is different?(more angular) The only thing I can find that resembles it is an LD2 of @Mackburner ... but that has a similar base to the LD1? I wish I knew how to copy and paste images from the gallery ..and it has the Tilley Hendon shield that is missing from the ads..
@podbros What device are you using? I click on the image, save it, then upload it into the dialogue box (with appropriate acknowledgement). Tony
Hi Tony Thanks but it’s my IT knowledge that’s lacking here I’m afraid... I’m unable to do the simplest of tasks.. I’m actually enrolling n an IT course at a regional college, poor sods.. they don’t know what they’re letting themselves in for :/
Almost thought that was photographed on the same table as the one in your avatar @ColinG I’d have added more pictures but it went for about £1300 more than I was willing to pay.
