Has anyone seen a petromax rapid lantern with a Aladdin top frame or has this been changed out at some point
@Justin McCauley Your lantern is genuine and sold by Aladdin Industries of Greenford, England prior to WW2 - around 1937 to 1939.
That is great news but it need a lot of work do you happen to know where to find the pressure gauge that screws into fount
There was none. "Normally" the pressure gauge is integrated in the filling cap. The extra gauge like of the 2827 model is available on the great auction sites I guess. It is not available as a sparepart.
Well I hope it is a Petromax tank.... As far as I know in 1938 Aladdin didn't sell Petromax lanterns with the "Pilz" pressure gauge. The Aladdin petromax lantern have a: - cross shaped hand wheel - "drehrapid" so a the old style rapid with turning knob It should be a 827 or 828 model. Do you have more pictures?
Here is a few more pics of the fount its hard to see but it says petromax rapid i did google the earlier models and found a few but very limited that had the gauge on the fount
There was an Aladdin posted a while back Petromax K822 (by Aladdin) 250 cp. with this same Aladdin Label on a Petromax lamp. I assumed then this was retailed by a European Aladdin industries comany such as Paris or Budapest. ::Neil::
As far as I know the Petromax lanterns marked with Aladdin and sold by Aladdin UK where only sold in 1938 (catalogue proof). I can't find my copy of the 1939 Aladdin catalogue where the lanterns are "striked through" (? good English). But since the Petromax model didn't change a lot, anybody can put parts together. But in the 1938 cat. the lanterns have the new type pressure gauge/filling cap.
Wim yes you are probably correct although they would have been on sale here in 1939 as well. We date them 1937 to 1939 because they cannot be outside those years in the UK but we can only be certain of May 1938. BUT the lamps we are discussing here are not Aladdin-Petromax as we understand them in the UK. As far as I know all the Petromax lamps sold by Aladdin Industries in the UK had a label with both brands on. This is one from a model 900 in blue but the same Aladdin-Petromax label was more commonly red on other models. The same lamps with just an Aladdin label I would assume were from one of the three European offices, Paris, Budapest or Bucharest and whilst they are Aladdin/Petromax lamps they are not from Aladdin England and may well have been available after the start of WW2. ::Neil::
Well it looks like this lantern was a bust the fount was completely rusted through on the bottom so not much i can do with it
