Hello all I got this iron from my mother about 2 years ago now, so I decided that I was running out of fettles for my lamps. Today I had a look at the workings of these Tilley irons, well first I pulled her apart, clean her up and put new seals in that I had, seems pretty easy, now to see if I've done everything correctly. All went well I'm surprised how easy these irons are, the vaporiser is in excellent working order, so here are my results thanks for looking. And there you go works well, by the way Maureen did the ironing as I've no idea how to iron.
@podbros, I think I put to much kerosene in the tank, so only 6 pumps in total. @Tony Press, Yes I will learn one day, nah I dont think so hahaha.
It’s not exactly rocket science Brian. I’m surprised at you, thought you would have a go at anything. BTW ironing is one of my pet hates.
Yes but have you seen the folks that do extreme ironing?? I never got on with the iron either and learned the way to dry clothes so they didn’t need the ‘Tilley touch’ Using a Tilley iron is probably an extra skill going by what folks have said about the high temperature?
Ironing; Also useful for flattening old manufacturers’ instruction sheets. Though, I wouldn’t recommend liquid fuel irons for that specific task.
A working iron! Well done! I must admit that once I’d retired from work that required a shirt and tie, ironing become a task I no longer bother with...
