    Thanks mate, I have a few of these and this is one of two that still has it’s original paint and a lot better looking lamp compared to the BR49a in the standard gold finish

    That yellow tank is typical of the 3 Southern Rail BR lantern types from 1960/1961. As far as I know the Southern BR49 was normally fitted with the X359 type black hood. Mind you the brown hood was current and was used on the Southern X246 BR so it is always possible some were issued with the more standard brown type. ::Neil::
