Tilley heater mesh globe

    Hi fellas, where can I sources two mesh globes for my Tilley 22, or being the practical minded fella that I am can I make them.

    I think that they are the same as the R1 burner. I got my last one on eBay UK but hopefully there will be some closer to home.

    Some have been made from two welch plugs for ends and stainless wire. They work quite well. Business in Braidwood sold or sells them. I reckon you could make a couple. They have straight sides; not bulging.

    That looks a much better design than the original. The Bialaddin heater element always seems to me to be more robust and put out more heat than the Tilley one. Depends on your desire to stick to original shape I guess, bearing in mind the original was asbestos not metal so already a change.

    I believe someone was doing stainless mantles for them.
    Maybe too early to tell how they will handle the heat cycling but it may be worth a try?

    Thank you everyone for you input, I’m going with the local Australian made from Braidwood, I will make one as I have a few Tilley heaters to fettle.
