    @Phil Harris

Phil Harris posed a comment, a while ago about Tilley's original patent being 100 years old on 20 July; being tomorrow Wed 20 July. Here is his post:

    Tilley’s 1922 patent 100th anniversary

I am suggesting a definite challenge to get 100 Tilley's of any type lit around the world on Wednesday; surely not that hard.

    Let's call it 100 Tilleys 4 Tilley.

Phil suggested he was lighting 20 Tilleys at an event.

I am going to try for a modest 8 and have built a hanger specially for it. That's 28 in total so far. Can you help and safely light 1 or 2 more. I realise @Buggerlugs could just about single handedly achieve the total  but, it's not a competition, just a contribution from as many lampies as possible to safely light up some Tilley lamps. Gives us an excuse too to light up though here in Victoria, Australia it is that cold presently the heat could be very useful.

I am not asking folk to compete just add a few more to the tally; one or two would be fantastic.

If you can post back to this thread after Wednesday and by say Saturday, with the following information:
    a) country involved
    b) how many Tilleys of any kind that you lit on Wednesday 20th.
    c) (optional) a photo

I will then produce a map a few days later to show the countries involved and the numbers achieved.:clap:

A picture would be nice too but not necessary just your advice on if you lit any up and the number. Perhaps consider posting the picture in the action gallery but still letting us know here how many you lit.

    Thanks for considering this.

    Have fun and stay safe.

Thanks mate but in truth there are plenty more members on this Forum that would make my collection look like a modest collection at best.
I myself would love to see @Anthony Big Bertha in action.;);)

I refer to the unprecedented temperatures being experienced in the UK and parts of western Europe. So sad to hear of fires in the countryside and some cities. Hope you all stay safe.

Naturally, under the circumstances no-one would expect people in these areas to be lighting anything that would add to the risk. In Australia such a day would be declared a Total Fire Ban day and no flames would be lit outside.

So far only Australians, where we are having bitterly cold days, have indicated an interest and we will carry the can for this celebration perhaps with some members from the USA, New Zealand and South Africa if they are interested and have a Tilley lamp or product.

So still a great milestone to celebrate but just in countries where it is safe to do so.

    This is a Tilley PL54.
The tank, cock valves and pre heater are original as saved from the tip. I’ve had it sitting for a while, the 100 Tilley 4 Tilley had inspired me to get it working and show some thing special .1931-1935 image.jpg image.jpg

I just got in and had heaps of hassles getting some
Lamps to operate correctly. I think issue is some were last checked a while ago. In the end a disappointing 6 and I was really hoping for a lot more. FL6 eventually settled down and worked ok. BR49 good. 3 X246 all ok and two of these were pork pies. Last one was a tilley home made copy of a CS56. Well done to those who have submitted numbers so far. Great pictures. I'll collate totals on weekend as some still to happen with time difference.

My contribution of 6 Tilleys alight. 20220720_222657.jpg

Tonight would have been awkward for me as Wednesday night is quizz night at the local pub so I lit mine last night BUT had them burning until around 01:45 U.K. time so nicely on the 20th.

    My contribution L to R, KL80, Hospital lamp, SDR, TL136 with 169 vapouriser, PL53 from 1938, TL10, AL15A and OL50 on the grass.

I’m on holiday in Scotland and of this collection of paraffinalia (plus one carbide lantern and a Biolite fan-assisted wood stove and grill) …

    1509DB4D-1526-488E-B6C4-57771FB2B0EE.jpeg

    … brought just one Tilley.

THIS Tilley CS56 for which I initially had just a burner complete with air intake ‘buttons’, a Guardsman lamp fuel tank, a CS56 vapouriser and I constructed a pot rest frame, windshield and inner and outer burner caps.

I could manage to light just one. It was a test of a Viton pump washer newly received from the Fettlebox.

I'm pleased to report success. No leaks and much less closing torque needed.
