Hi fellas, this is my newly fettled Dutch Army issued Veritas P350. What an educational project it has been. Its petrol, (shellite, coleman fuel) not kero that is sometimes stenciled on the tank., confusingly it has a meth bowl/ preheater just like a kero lantern but as other fellas have discussed it preheats the vaporisor let it burn out then light the latern and hay presto ignition with no great flre ups. It has an AGM NRV similar to coleman The vaporiser is /looks very similar to the tilley needle, the needle base is not fixed into the ecentric block, it sits ontop, the spring the brass spacer and the brass restricter act as the spring tention when to raise and lower the pricker, i replaced what i usumed was aspestos with brass, I stripped the paint of the tank etch primed and repainted by hand brush, i had the colour made up as close as possible at the paint shop, Blast and painted the burner frame in hi temp spray pak, left the hood as original condition and colour, the collar and fuel knob are original condition. It cleaned up well, Looks good, and now the money shot Very cool, Hope you all enjoy the fettle
G'day Darryl, You did a damn fine job on your Veritas P350. She looks great and is running as she should. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Norman
Wow @Darryl Durdin you have done an awesome job on the fettle of this P350, it’s a credit to you. Your write up is very interesting and informative, well done. She looks to be running very well as all the recently fettled Veritas lanterns do. Cheers Pete
I was wondering that, too. @Darryl Durdin Did you find this in Australia, or is it a recent import. Cheers Tony
Hi Darryl ! ... Great job on the lantern .. It has an 'Industrial' look about it that i really like : ) p.s. All these threads about these Dutch Army lamps are very interesting, btw, lots of information, food for thought, and all that...
hi fellas, the truth of the Dutch lantern down under is that I swapped a handi kero pet with a fella in the Netherlands for a bialaddin he wanted to reduce his collection, so when I opened my parcel to my surprise was the additional Dutch army veritas, very cool I am very chuffed with the finished lantern, not everything has to glitter and shine, I too liked my hand painted tank it dose it period style thank you to everyone for your support and advice in getting his very cool lantern going. ps can some one send me a link as to where I may get a new jet for it
@Darryl Durdin The Veritas 350 jet can be replaced with an Austramax jet. The threads are identical, you may have to adjust the pricker rod for length. I don’t know what jet threads the P350 has but try an Austramax jet. It may work. Cheers Pete
Well done Darryl, it looks good now. The military paint job gives it an indestructible look. Very cool lamp.
@AussiePete i believe that the P350 uses different jet that Veritas 350, se my post about search for jet to my P350. Great jobb @Darryl Durdin! Did you find a replacement for the jet? Or you have an idea where to start looking? I have now a P350 without jet and the needle is broken. Cheers, Francisc
@Carpedien1982 A modified Austramax jet will fit the Veritas 350 and run very successfully. I have used a number of modified Austramax jet’s on the Veritas 350. The P350 is a different animal, the Dutch army had the P350. The P350’s jet is physically smaller than the 350 and it’s designed to operate with petrol, not kerosene. I haven’t a P350 in my stable, I wish I did so I cannot comment on a replacement for the P350. Keep them burning Pete
@AussiePete @Darrren yesterday i found a replacement for a P350 in the Coleman 200A jet. Now i need to find a longer generator/vaporizer for the cleaning needle. Cheers, Francisc
Ow, I almost didn't recognise the lantern anymore. Except for the 1st foto. I also love the handle that you paired it with. Very nice fettle indeed
