    Is the red line on the Petromax lantern pressure gauge a maximum or minimum for running the lamp.

    @Harder Sorensen
    Sorry to contradict Harder, but I’ve noticed that @Reinhard knows a thing or two about Petromaxes and in THIS post regarding his Petromax he said,

    @Harder Sorensen I was surprised to read that too. It makes sense though. The pressure gauge is fitted as a standard fitment for the ‘Rapid’ Petromaxes fitted with the pre-heater and the red line serves as a prompt to ‘get pumping’ when the pre-heater torch depletes the pressure in the tank to the point at which the torch ceases to work properly, when the air pressure is getting too low to atomise the fuel adequately. The fine jet in the pre-heater tends to choke on the poorly-aerated fuel then, I’ve noticed on my Geniol kerosene stove.

    I wondered about this because both of my Hipolitos run a lot better if I run the lamps at a couple of lbs psi over the red line.
