    Hello gentlemen,
My question is, can a 70-year-old Tilley Vaporizer be resurrected? The cleaning needle seems to be stuck.
maybe heat and quench? I see they sell on ebay for about 50 usd for the 7 inch but im not sure I want to spend that much for this yet.
    thanks guys

I’d start with heat and quench, tapping bottom of vapouriser on a wood block. Then clean the pricker rod, being careful of the tip.

    Then test.

    Cheers

    Hi Doug
If the lamp/lantern was left switched off then the needle tip may be sticking out of the end of the vapouriser?
If you carefully rub the end of your fingertip across the end you may still be able to feel it?

that would be the other end to what you have highlighted

    regards

    pb

The only threads will be on the outside of the vapouriser where it screws into the fuel control cock.

    Cheers

@Doug L Here's the patent image of a Tilley vapouriser (screwed into the control cock),
    Tilley vapouriser.jpg

and with the brass fitting screwed out

A build-up of carbon on the wire will cause it to jam here

Unfortunately I don't have images of the build-up of carbon on the wire but I can tell you that the biggest build-up on both the wire and sidewall of the tube is usually between 2 and 2 1/2 inches (50 and 65mm) from the jet end.

If you look/click in the centre of the picture you can see a build up of carbon
    It’s as Henry said.. 2 to 2 + 1/2” from the tip

here is a pic of the end of the vapouriser and the cleaning needle
The very end is broken off

Here is one with the needle end intact

This needle has carbon build up too

Does the vapouriser you have, have the brass fitting on the base, or is it steel?

Doug, my apologies for my misleading comment above. I was not considering taking that fitting off for cleaning (even though I’ve done it myself!).

Later produced Tilley vapourisers are crimped rather than threaded at that point.

I’m glad you’ve got the full info for progress.

    Cheers

    Tony

hello friends with what material can you install a new wire for the vaporizer????
I spend with a tilley lamp that I bought a few days ago that came with the vaporizer covered and I uncovered it with a 0.30 primus wire and the flame comes out very yellow

    The wire is stainless steel.
