    Hello,

This week I bought my first Tilley Fl6. I had to drove a few miles, but it was worth for it.
    The condition seems pretty good.
All parts are easy to deassemble and today I started to clean up the lamp.
The glass is completely perfect after cleaning. And the reflector is also perfect.

I'm from the Netherlands and searching for some parts. Such as mantle and fettlebox.

Does some know the best way to clean up the burner and stuff? It turn completely black. I tried with soap and towel.

All tips and comments are welcome!

    Greetings Ruud

All the way to Sweden, perhaps?
Atleast it comes from here at some time since it, like so many FL6's, is tagged with our Civil defence logo (Cfs).

Haha no I didn't need to drove that far. It was 70 miles. But if it was, Sweden wasn't a punishment because I really like the Scandinavian country's and beside Sweden, I love Norway also. (sorry ;-)) But that said, thnx for the detail of CFS. I didn't know.

A fine restoration project and I soak burners in vinegar, the length of the soak depends on the condition of the burner, I rinse the burner in cold water when I remove it from the vinegar, sometimes the burners need more than one soak in vinegar.

Thnx Jeff and Henry! I'll look in to it.
@Carlsson nobody shall hear it from me.

I looked at the bottom for a time stamp but can't find it. There is only a stamp with made in England en between the made in and England the number 2.

Can anybody guess the production year by the photo's.

I'm thinking to give the lamp a other colour then black..
Perhaps some people will judge me, but dark anthracite seems me to be beautiful.

My guess for date would be late 1950s (no date stamp; but “Made in England”).

    Cheers

    That's a nice pick-up, what's 70 miles when you can come home with a Tilley FL6.
    Enjoy it.

Nice find and good condition for its age..
I don’t know whether it being a civil defence model means you can narrow the date down even more?

This week I received the last parts for the lamp which I was restoring. Tonight I started the for the first time after who knows how long.
    Here the result, it's fully working! IMG-20230130-WA0008.jpg IMG-20230130-WA0009.jpg GridArt_20230130_213925748.jpg IMG_20230207_195233.jpg IMG_20230207_195338.jpg IMG_20230218_183527.jpg IMG_20230218_183545.jpg

    Excellent!

Is the decal on the back of the light box shown on the unfettled photo(s) the same as the one in the photos of the fettled light?

Looks great, I like the Matt finish. What paint did you use?

    Thnx all!
@Tony Press, the decal on the light box is replaced with a new one. I had to make the lamp heat resistant in the oven so the original decal was melted.
@Scott D, I used heat resistant spray paint, color dark Anthracite with matt finish.

I also have a AL21 in the same color.

    @Aquarius

Do you have a photo that shows the writing on the original decal? Or, can you remember whether it said "[Made in] England" or "[Made in the] United Kingdom".

The reason I ask, is that it will help identify whether your light was assembled before 1961 or after.

    Best regards

    Tony

@Tony Press I totally missed the detail.
I had a picture from before luckily.
It said made at hendon, England.
Means that's from before the 1961 or after?

Yes. It means that the two components were made in England before Tilley moved to Northern Ireland.

Late 1950s to 1961 is when your light component were made, or at least painted and finished. Of course it could have been assembled after that, but I would reckon not long after.

    Cheers
