Found this today, 300x, someone polished it years ago by the look of it, the original seals and cup were crumbly, the base still has maroon paint, the knob is a maroon colour, has pressure tit. Took about an hour to get going, the mantles a cheap tie on jobby, need to get a better one, but a bit of fun from a junk shop. Hoods marked vapalux model 300x and a number of patent numbers, the glass is marked bialaddin v60, so the just post war years and brand change over.
It all depends on when you want to do with it, but Rustoleum make a spray paint called Claret Wine that is a close-ish substitute for the original maroon colour. These are good reliable lanterns.
Im more of a wipe the muck off, service it and use it kind of guy, but paint infos useful, the last time i bought a tin of maroon paint, the paint shop refused to believe such a colour existed, they even got out a ral colour guide and challenged me to find it when i insisted maroon was a real colour. It took me 20 seconds to find it in the ral colour guide, much to their chagrin. It was £30 a litre ten years ago, which is a bit high, so a near match is good to know.
I have one of these with no marking to the hood and a pip nipple to the base. Appears to be all brass with a steel hood cap. Anybody got any idea of its age. It looks all to be original. Many thanks.
