Hi All Here is my Tilley AL-21 that i restored a few weeks back, sadly didnt take any pictures when i got it, but it was in a rough state, so decided on a full strip down and clean to bare metal, there was no original paint remaining, it was just rust, but it was in good solid condition and luckily the original acid etched front glass survived. so repainted it in high temp black and lined the flu above the burner in gold heat reflective tape, abit of polish and elbow grease and overall im very happy with it, and can't believe how bright they are.
I was wondering the make of mantle, for, as you can see, I quoted you saying it was 500cp. Is it a Tilley 500 cp mantle? Tilley made specific mantles for these lamps, the 190 mantle, which is a bit smaller than the Tilley 164 mantle used on X246s and the like. Tilley also made the 191 mantle for the Floodlights and a few AL models, but the 190 was marketed for the AL 21. Given the scarcity of these specific model mantles I usually resort to using a Tilley-type 164 mantle, rated at 300cp, hence my curiosity at the success of your “500” mantle. Cheers Tony
