The culmination of THIS project, now with the tank painted and embellished with a Veritas decal. Parts have been cleaned and worn-to-the-brass nickel plated components have been nickel plated. Here’s how it was as a dismantled purchase at the Ashover Festival in October. A more thorough dismantling at home to assess work to be done. The main issue was a very worn jet and absent pricker needle. A new Primus 1020 lantern jet was a direct replacement (@Henry Plews alerted me to its compatibility) and the Primus pricker was silbrazed to a length of M2 threaded rod which matched the threads in the tapped axial hole in the Veritas pricker rod. The pricker rod incorporates adjustment capability to get the specified pricker projection at the jet. Ready to re-install on the tank with a new lead washer and some thread-lock. Ready for action! The only decal template I could find to print wasn’t the specific Veritas bowl fire one, but it looks well enough. Something I’ve noticed about the hexagonal-section bakelite handle … … is that it’s a pattern found on contemporary (1950’s) products, such as this Simplex kettle. John
Looks great and going well - and very interesting about the handle. I recall many years ago seeing books full of "standard parts" in engineering design offices, the logic being - why design and make something from scratch when you could buy it off the shelf ?
A top job with everything and a great read I didn’t know about the kettle handle but have seen something similar on a blowlamp.. I don’t have either to compare so couldn’t say if they are a match. regards pb
@presscall Amazing restoration. Very nicely done. The handle is similar but not exactly the same as this Endura kettle common in Australia around the fifties.
Afternoon from New Zealand , I have just joined the page as I have had interest in lamps etc for a while now , but only now have the time to spend sorting a few issues with what I have here . But I only just joined and can not figure out how to start a post ? As One thing I do have is a Veritas bowl heater with the guard and its in very nice condition , I though others may like to view it ? Thanks in advance
Hello and welcome @Steve Lawson. If you have a look here Tips & Guides you'll find how to start a new topic and how to attach / post images.
