Here is a kitson table lamp it came in a wooden crate its very well made with holders for all the spanners that accompanied it. I wonder if they shipped them like this or if it was used by a salesman the quality is similar to the tilley hospital type box so its a maybe. some pictures of it as it came and the box. Now it came with a mesh globe and it fits very well it has a US patent date sometime in 08 not sure what thats about All the lamps i have seen similar to this have a glass globe like the ones on 150cp blanchards. but this looks good too the jet on this was well blocked but heat and quench and poking it did eventually clear it Now its a long jet and it was blocked even tho the lamp has a pricker so i decided to roll a little filter of s/s and stick it in the jet to help keep it clear off blocking this is the burner and pricker setup hope you can see how it works The fuel is filtered by the string type cigar shaped in the picture of the burner The lamp came with 2 funnels one for the fuel and one for the meths Right now a few pictures of the lamp in action after reassembly Now a couple of runners finally back to the box ready for its next light up at newark i should think Now we know the patent for the burner is 1915 but 1915 advert we have for this lamp shows it on short spike legs not these folded metal type legs such as this one has. I have seen these legs on a kitson with the 1911 patent badge on. Also not many kitsons like this have a positive shut off valve as this one does so to me this suggests earlier too maybe neil has some thoughts on this too cheers pete
Great work, @pete sav. Thank you for the presentation on this exceptional lamp. What mantle did you use? Tony
Thanks tony it was in good nick really not the usual wrecks i do. I used a ceramic ring for what they sell as blanchard rings and a coleman 21 and it seems fine bright light Cheers pete
Great Scott !!! …great photos too! what an unusual pricker? I thought it was a hair pin at first I think the protect a lite patent is 1908.. saw one on an old town gas wall lite a while ago the funnel has a tube.. is that to avoid over filling? yes, the taller D1 seems to have those legs… …sweet :-)
1915 does seem to be when this short D1 was advertised as new but I agree some of the features suggest earlier. A salesmen's demonstrator or prototype maybe? Can't be before 1908 'cos that's when the company changed name to "Empire Light" but I would guess this is a bit later and maybe 1909 to 1912 as a best guess. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Yes Neil i reckon your right i know the advert is 1915 but it is for the new model could this be the older version of the same? Not much paper for kitson over the years just features on this one make me think its a bit earlier probably not much like. Years ago me n mick saw this in someones barn the burner was the same and the tank legs just as on this one. On the down side he wouldnt sell it Cheers pete
And lassies @pete sav. Meant to watch the auction then had another senior moment and forgot. It looks fantastic.
That burner head looks to be the same as do the legs. That patent is GB191010611 and was applied for 29 April 1910 and granted 20 April 1911 so I guess with Pats Panding on the label this one could be from 1910-1911. ::Neil::
@Mackburner Yes i think so neil really nice example in such good condition too. Dont think its had a hard life at all Cheers pete
Very pleasant lamp, with a very unique aesthetic. I congratulate you on your restorations. Thank you for sharing it. Regards, Titoo.
