Was anyone watching the auction yesterday with the ‘storm lamp’ ? must have been a scarce one? Kitson?
I've never seen anything like that... and it looks like theres a Tilley glass shoved in the box which is odd. Could it be a home made creation? The base looks like a camping stove.
It's a Kitson short D1. I know where it went and I would expect we will see it fettled and working in due course. ::Neil::
Be great to see some more pics of it the auctioneers didn’t seem to think much of it… .. the box looks pretty old and has a cabinet type lock not a hasp + staple padlock ..
Well i can see some intrest in this auction well guess what DPD delivered here today Now you might recognise whats in the box This box is not a homemade job i think its just so well made. The lamp is clamped in place and metal straps hold all the tools and spirit can Here are some bits contained inside minus the tilley glass Now few pics of the lamp So its now here in my garage for some TLC for the new owner. I will post pictures of the bits as i progress with its treatment as a new thread in the gallery good lamp older than 1915 i think too Cheers pete
well, maybe to the auctioneers it looked rough in a dirty box but I think otherwise looking forward to the fettle too , thanks Pete !
I would think it has to be 1915 at the earliest as it was advertised as a new model in July 1915. Probably on sale for some years after as well of course although it doesn't appear in any other adverts I know of. ::Neil::
@Paul Burnell no need for envy paul enjoy the lamps you do have Check here Kitson D1 short domestic model Cheers pete
Thanks for the link Pete..... As soon as I saw the first pic I stopped and went out to the kitchen to put on the kettle.... Great read, lovely job alltogether. Well done.
Very nice lamp and a wonderful find. Does the box construction and fitment seem to be original; eg joins and screw alignment? I am not an expert and perhaps around that period, war years, packaging was made differently. Just interested anyway.
It looks well made like machine cut joins no errors or dodgy joints. fasteners look made for the job and some sort of machine nails holding it together. similar quality to the tilley hospital lamp boxes i reckon cheers pete
