This lamp keeps getting better. It arrived in the post with a full tank of paraffin, luckily none had escaped. Yesterday I thought I had better drain it into an empty container ready for display and as I did so I found that it had a full tank of rare blue paraffin. Not very exciting really is it.
Nice, they don't make adverts like they used to hey. I am placing an ad in the wanted section for the accessories that I am missing. Does anyone know which style of vapouriser packet would have been supplied with this lamp in 1952? When you say "Hospital & Survey variety" are these basically the wall lamp with the handle arrangement, but all the different styles? Or are there other lamps which were designed for altered like the wall lamps for this purpose? Either way bring'em along for the photo shoot.

ML=modern lamp, KL=kitchen lamp, PL=portable lamp, WL=wall lamp,IL=indoor lamp, OL= outdoor lamp, FL=floodlight, SL=searchlight, etcetera, Jeff.
So if I have this right, the SL61 is the WL25 with an outdoor PL53 style hood and no handle. By adding the handle arrangement it is still an SL61 but is now a hospital/survey variation? If this is correct then I think I understand now. Thanks for that Jeff, i'm still learning.
Yes the wall lamps are similar to the hospital lamps but remember the handle has to fit in the vertical position 180degrees to the foot positions so the pump\filler is ofset and of course the mounting bush for the handle is soldered on. I once saw a bodged heater tank on ebay with a handle and pipe on sold for a good sum passed off as a hospital lamp to some unsuspecting buyer pete
Hello Pete, yes, there are some shady sellers on Ebay. The tank on the hospital lamp is similar to the R-1 tank. It has the threaded socket in the tank to attach one end of the handle to and it has the hole drilled the base rim to attach the other end of the handle to. However, to the experienced collector it should be simple to tell a genuine hospital lamp from a cobbled together R-1 tank made to look like an HL.. But for the inexperienced collector here are some points to look for. The pump and the pressure indicator are on the opposite sides on the HL., tank and the nozzle which the pump screws onto is set higher on the HL., tank, Jeff.
