Hi all, here is my TL106 lamp, in original condition and it seems that the lamp hasn't been used that often by the condition of the gallery and burner, you can smell Kerosene in the fount though. What I have been told by the previous owner, is that his father bought this lamp from new with the shade and has been in his family up until earlier this year, in storage. I haven't seen an original shade before in real life, that is, I have only seen them on this Forum. I will let the experts tell me if the shade is indeed original, it's some type of plastic and to me it looks like others that I have seen on here. As to the condition of the shade it has cracks and apart has come away from the wire, but if I turn it around it does look fantastic to me. This lamp will be left as is, and I won't be lighting it either, maybe I might try the shade on another TL106 that I have. Question will this shade take the heat if I use it? Or is it better to just not use the shade, just incase something happens to it? As this is my one and only shade of this style. Thanks for looking. Now for some photos.
A very fine example, @Buggerlugs. The shade, although not perfect, is fabulous to have. Can you do a rough drawing of the frame for the shade? Cheers Tony
@Tony Press I'm not a good drawer, does this link help? Photos needed of a collapsible parchment shade for Tilley TL120A Scroll up first. Regards Brian
@Buggerlugs I wonder if your shade is Tilley or Bialaddin. Neil's shade has seams where the two halves are laced together, whereas your shade has one seam which is (most probably) welded. The plastic is of a kind which gets brittle with age and it's not uncommon for them to split for no apparent reason. Provided you use a glass to help funnel the heat dirrectly upwards, the shade will stand the heat. I'd be tempted to try the shade on another lamp, take some photographs which demonstrate how the light is diffused and how much kinder on the eye than a naked mantle it is before returning it to the lamp it came with.
Thanks for the comments, even if it's not a Tilley shade I'm very happy with it. I would like to know if it was an original shade though.
