Hi All Just another different style of this lamp with two piece top and name engraved on tank, also 0352 stamped on the bottom of the tank, photos also show phoenix mark on glass which came with this lamp.
My example of this lamp is stamped 0861 which might be a date of Aug 1961 but I think this is not possible because my information is that Charles Twigg went into reveivership in 1957 and it is not likely they made a lamp 4 years after they went belly up. I suspect these numbers are actually serials and not dates.::Neil::
Might I suggest, then, we list the numbers on our Buflam lanterns? Assuming sufficient survive in the hands of collectors, it should become obvious quite quickly what the numbers refer to. I've got:- 0351 - gold tank, chrome hood with brown hat, red decal. 0851 - gold tank, brown hood, blue decal 0352 - chrome tank, green speckled hood, no decal In addition, I've two more of these Buflam lanterns with unstamped founts - both gold tank, brown hoods with blue decals. Given Steve and me have lanterns with identical numbers, I think it's more likely these must be dates and not serial numbers - are you sure your '6' isn't a heavily stamped '5', Neil? How are we pronouncing Buflam, btw? - 'Boo-flam' or 'Buff-lam'
Could be a 5 I suppose. I have no idea where the lantern is so I can't easily check. I have to agree that a date makes more sense though. ::Neil::
@David Shouksmith Mine is marked 0851, gold tank, all brown enamelled steel two piece hood, blue decal, black knob. I would say "Boo-flam". Sorry it's taken 13 years to respond - but that's pretty good for me......
