I bought this lamp from another long time Australian collector.

It had been restored by him to display standard by being re-painted in gold, and all components thoroughly cleaned. It has not been burned since this restoration was undertaken.

The lamp is fitted in the first photo with a TW Sands replica Tilley shade that the previous owner has decorated with glass beads. The lamp is also fitted with a Tilley 182 onion globe.

I date the lamp to the early 1940s as it is fitted with the GF control cock; the handle/column cannot take an XN control cock; but the tank of the lamp is stamped (badly) with the Registered Design number.

    TL10 configuration (with shade)

TL11 configuration (globe; no shade). Also fitted with a lower insect screen.

This lamp will remain a shelf queen.

Does anyone know if a bead fringe was offered by Tilley? It would be interesting to see what it looks like on a lit lamp (doesn't have to be this lamp).

I’ll put this shade on a working Tilley for you, @Nils Stephenson.

It might take a couple of days as I’m hobbling around with a broken bone in my foot.

I think the fringe is top class.

    Cheers

Ha-ha @Anthony you knew that would catch my attention. Can anyone judge the length of the original beaded fringe, I’ve looked at some online but they seem a little long. Also what colour or colours?

    @Jean J

I’ll do a hypothetical ratio measure of the length of the bead in the illustration against an old style Tilley shade I have — in the morning. (Or someone else can beat me to it).

On the subject of Tilley shade fringes:

I estimate that, by comparing the illustration above to a shade from that period, the vertical length of the fringe at its longest point is 92mm (from the top of the fringe itself).

The vertical length of the fringe on my lamp above is 115mm.

    Cheers

Thanks for that Tony, much as I thought. The one I’m looking at is about 5.5” so might be a bit long on a vase lamp.

I think it'd look particularly appealling when lit in a matching 1940s-styled living room.
