Hello all, I was lucky enough to come across this Tilley TL120 Table Lamp, I didn't have one in my collection, once seeing this lamp I knew I just had to have it so I looked her over and thought i've got a great chance to clean this lamp up as the plating looked to be in great condition, with some marks here and there sometimes it's hard to say whether the plating will come up lucky for me it did. Finally got around to polishing up my Table lamp over the last day, the fount was very easy to clean and the other parts were as well, I believe this lamp didn't see much action as the burner and gallery didn't seem to have any soot on them at all, I will not polish this Gallery and burner up they will be kept in original condition for another lamp. For this lamp I did do a fettle first so that I could light her up because I haven't seen one work before, most of you know once I polish up my lamps not too many get fired up again, even the vaporizer was in excellent working condition I think. Well she ran for 8 to 9 hours and I only pumped her once at the start, I must say that when I fired her up it was a different burner and gallery as I have swapped them over with another lamp all in all i'm very happy with my new Tilley. Photo time before, working and finally all spick and span enjoy. Thanks for looking.
This is all your your fault @Buggerlugs I’m meant to be unpacking not polishing lamps! Call it inspirational if you will but you keep putting all these pics of lamps an lanterns and i cudnt help it :-) ah well I guess theres no hope ps keep on keeping on
@podbros That looks nice is it a TL10? Well someone has to keep you motivated mate great job, how about a photo of all the whole lamp thanks.
Thanks but it’s one that never got finished off ... the upper parts don’t look their best... I was unpacking and thought I would clean a little bit more of it using a cleaning product I’d not seen before It also has quite a few little dings and the chrome has seen better days but it’s the only chrome tl10 I have and it needs some tlc , but thank you for asking
Are you going to share the name of this stuff pb? I have a nice chrome TL10 which has been sadly neglected since I bought it, maybe now is the time to brighten it up a bit.
@Jean J Read the link then what I forgot to say on the link, I use two toothbrush one fore each step then use a two lint free cloths for each to finish off with. Spick and span like the dunny can man.
Hi @Jean J Thanks but still not sure how friendly it is to other non-ferrous metals like Aluminium so wanted to try it out and make sure? It does seem good on Chrome so far but have been taking it slowly as didn’t want to make things worse? ps just tried some on the gallery.. seems ok so may post results in a separate thread?
I’ve been using Autosol for years now, great stuff but to be honest I think life’s too short to spend hours on cleaning a lamp or anything else!
Hello all, looks like lady luck and a Englishman has given me a perfect shade to finish off my TL120. Here are some photos of my completed lamp. I must say I'm extremely happy with this one and only TL120 in my collection. The contrast is amazing I believe and stands out from my other TL lamps. Thanks.
