This lamp entered the Tilley Lamp catalogues in 1925 the lamp was a cheaper version of the then TL10 type table lamp. Little has been known of it until recentely. Since finding i have managed to find a little more of its history. It seems in 1925 this model was a TL15 plain gallery model the TL16 had a batwing burner but by 1927 the model number changes to TL16 the TL15 number appears to have been dropped in the catalogue. This model does not appear in the 1929 catalogue so its life was a short one. But yet in 1925 with the silent burner arrangement the TL16 came in this style
Good afternoon, thank you for sharing this post. I have not been able to find any other info regarding this model online. Can I ask if the hexagonal control cock can be removed from your lamp? Thanks for your help.
@pete sav A grand reference post Pete. Alas, my forays into Tilleys are at a more run-of-the-mill level, but you’ve presented something to aspire to - in my dreams. John
In the advert it looks like the shorter vapouriser? Would that have been one of the first uses of the 606 ? pb
@podbros it does look like it has the 606 vapouriser on pod well spotted i never noticed that cannot think of any other pre 30s lamps with a short vap. Cheers pete
@presscall well nice rare stuff does turn up now and again john maybe not as often as we would like tho. This post has sat on this site for 15 years with not one comment and today its got noticed by Denise Cheers pete
So it did. I’m getting requests for additional information on posts on CCS going back that far, so I know the feeling.
Thanks Pete tbh i wasnt brave enough to tag on my questions about the ball bearing but had been studying it for ages before jumping felt daft as it was such an early thread? i might have to bodge a gallery to get it going pb
@podbros the original burner is a simple brass ring with a PL53 burner in it or you could always put a batwing on it as a upgraded one. Cheers pete
