So the latest toy arrived today. See picture. Sadly the glass is cracked and even more sadly, it is Durosil long bottom type and probably original, so I have not cleaned it too enegetically yet. The crack is around the base of the globe so it may survive, but the rest of the lamp is different for me.
I has no discernanble date on the fount and the handles are hinged to the frame rather than on extensions to the metal frame. Any ideas on the year? Presuably pre 1955 if it is undated. It has the small Tilley lamp marked control knob by the way.

I has a "Tilley Lamp X246" transfer on the rim of the fount, but no other markings.
Were the metal supports for the globe just painted do you know?

    Time to start fettling again!

I thought that my other undated Tilley was early as it had a butterfly filler cap, but on relection when I bought that one the chap who was selling it told me that his dad was disabled and had purposley bent the control cock knob at right angles. He was a proficient lathe engineer as well so he may have made the filler cap to assist with fuelling the lamp. I managed to straighten the control lever as it was leaking and needed a new seal. This was maybe 20 years ago. Does anyone know it they were ever made with a butterly filler cap?

Yes, I'd taken some time out from the hobby/addiction/obsession (delete as applicable) but came back to it with a vengeance back in January. I've spent a lot, lol, in that time, but hey. Your lamp is 1950 - mid-54 date wise and yap, the cage was painted same colour as the tank. Plastikote Metallic Brass is generally considered the best match nowadays and I can certainly vouch for that. Butterfly pump caps were around by that time and would certainly have been fitted to your lamp, along with the more common one. Happy fettling!

Hi mate, late 1956 is when they started date stamping.
That's a nice lamp you have acquired, congratulations, and have fun on your fettle.
