    I picked up a Wizard 55 hollow wire lamp at the last Staffordshire Reef gathering. Shown here Wizard N0.55 hollow wire lamp

    It’s in good condition but the globe retaining ring was missing. Making a replacement seemed simple enough but ended up being more time consuming than expected.

    @Anthony supplied me with some photos and enough measurements to give it a go.

    First, I need some detailed drawings

    Bending a 3/16” brass rod into a circle by hand didn’t work.

    I needed to make a bending tool capable of forming a circle

    I seem to have lost the photos from forming the finger grips from 1/8” brass rod but they were not too difficult. I used 2 x 7mm dia steel rods, held in as a former and held them in a vice.

    Drilled the mounting holes in the rod at 45 Deg and silver soldered them in place.

    When fitted the diameter was a little small and I had to cut and silver soldered in a piece.

    Success

    Good work :thumbup::thumbup:

    the former you mentioned for bending the finger grips could be known as ‘dogs’ over here.. certainly an old smithing term and i still use pairs of dogs for forming flats and round bars when needed :-)

    Thanks podbros

    This was one of those long drawnout projects, where you start, have a problem and set it aside whilst you ponder on a solution. In this case a lot of pondering.:-k

    @podbros

    Could you possibly post a photo or two of your various " dogs " and how to use them ? I need to learn. Thanks.
