Hi all this problem certainly already have been laid I need to drill a hole in a glass because my lamp have no lighting hole. I am not able to full up the preheating cup I am sure some of you can dirige me to the good posts here in the forum Thanks in advance Michel
Look for this sort of thing. You might even be able to take it to a glass repair place and get them to do it for you. 15pcs Useful Diamond Coated Drill Bits Set Tile Marble Glass Ceramic Hole Saw 6mm-50mm | Wish
Another source: Buy diamond coated drill bits set and get free shipping on AliExpress Those will certainly do the job. They have no central drill bit to guide them so a good technique is to drill a hole in a thin wooden board first and then to fasten that securely onto the glass. It serves as a guide and helps to drill a hole with very clean edges. Feed water from a squeeze bottle while drilling to keep everything cool and prevent the glass from cracking.

I was just trying to work out how you make a hole in a globe with the meths bottle and lighter, but then I realised what you meant.
I must be dumb as a dog turd coz I can't see the use of the gas torch. I can see that the bottle maybe is to hold water for glass cutting lubricant, but the gas torch?? My head hurts ...... Cheers Pete
Pete, I tried to 'get it' for about 5 minutes and couldn't figure it out. I decided it was my low IQ rearing its ugly head again then saw your post, which was a relief.
Hi all, I stuck a 12 x 12 cm globe of an old MEWA (ex DDR, Eastern Germany ) Lantern in my dutch army Veritas P 350.. And yes.. it had already a hole ( standard ! ) in it ! ( see picture ) With a long match..I can easy lightning my cup, filling it with meth also peace of cake It works like a champ ! The globe I did find last year on the Bay in Germany. Regards from the Netherlands, Tjerk Polee
@AussiePete @Matty I'm glad it wasn't just me too. He's talking about lifting the glass and using the bottle to fill the meths cup, then lighting with the torch. No need for a hole in the glass. I was hoping for some fancy glass cutting trick though.
@Matthew92 Thanks for that, mystery solved ........ I'm usually quick on the uptake but this had me flummoxed . I actually wondered if I had taken my meds today. I then realised I don't take meds at all, so it couldn't be that. Cheers Pete
Hi Michel, Drilling glass can be tricky, but it’s doable with the right approach. Use a diamond-tipped drill bit and keep the glass constantly wet to prevent cracking. Work slowly with light pressure, and support the glass on a soft, stable surface. Starting with a small pilot hole can help.
