Dears, A friend of mine bought recently unusual small Petromax lamp. It looks like some WWII Petromax 900 – 100/150Cp size, steel black cage etc. There is no logo on the tank. Fuel cap has different diameter and threading. If you know something more about that type of Petromax then please share your comments. All the best, Piotrek
@WimVe I think that this is PX 900, but an unusual one: "steel black cage etc. There is no logo on the tank. Fuel cap has different diameter and threading." I just wonder if anybody else has such a lamp or at least have some idea why it is so different from regular 900? My opinion is that during the war Petromax made plenty lamp variations depending most likely on parts/materials availability, maybe some important war related instructions etc. But maybe someone has better explanation why this lamp differs from others. all the best, Piotrek
It reminds me a bit of that Solex lantern, although there are some differences of course. Maybe someone has put the parts together in the past. I recently bought such a 100-CP Solex lantern because I thought it was a PX 900, but when I received it, I realized my mistake and sold it again, as I need to limit my collection to fewer manufacturers.
I restored this Solex 252 ( 100 cp ) in August. It looks similar but different in every detail to Piotrek's lamp. @Piotrek Can you show us more pictures ?
More pics. There is that "8" on the tank just like in other Petromax lamps, but lack of other brand marks and different fuel cap diameter and threading is really unusual. I would "blame" wartime diverse production for that, but this is just my hypothesis. @Reinhard all the best, Piotrek
Thank's @Piotrek Ìt's clearly a Petromax 900. I don't know why the Petromax engravings are missing from the tank or why the filler neck was enlarged. Perhaps an experiment from the early GDR ?
Regarding that strange filler cap... It reminds me of a machined hex nut. My suggestion is: the original one got lost, someone fount a brass hex nut and changed it to be a filler cap. As the threads are no standard threads he simply took die and tap of a matching size but with a different thread and made the lamp work again. Erik
Modifications are possible unlikely - there are no visible evidence of cutting and soldering. The whole threaded part diameter is bigger. There are plenty of Petromax style caps available in Europe (lamp is in Poland) so why bother? If that strange threading was present with regular Petromax 900 then modification would be quite likely explanation, but with that different tank and cage - I think that the whole lamp is original but for some reason a different one. It reminds me of other unusual lamp described below. Almost Hasag 34, but definitely not. ID help | Classic Pressure Lamps & Heaters I wish to had that Petromax 900 in my collection I have to again get some small Ditmars to swap for it all the best, Piotrek
Yes,the diameter of the filler neck is slightly langer than the Petromax and the thread is very coarse. It looks exactly like the one my BAT from the 1960s,made in East Germany.
