    Hi all,
I'm currently restoring several Tilley lamps and was wondering what you are using to get a near match for colours.
It has been suggested Arrium Beige (Rover car colour) for the cream but I have been unable to source any of this.
What type of paint do you use for the Gold tanks?
Also I have several Military pressure lamps and was wondering what is been used to replicate Army Green?
    I await your suggestions.
    Many thanks, Thomas.

    Hiya
Halfrauds used to stock the beige.. worth a look perhaps you can match up to near enough to something else?

    Hope that helps?

Plastikote or Valspar "Brass" is a pretty close match for unweathered Tilley gold. For the "Military lanterns" I presume you mean Bialaddin/Vapalux models; I think the colour varied a bit with time but for a lot of the alloy frame models (305, M1, 320) RAL number 6003 Olive Green is a good match.

Arran Beige was Land Rover colour LRC 433 from 1989 to 1993.

    Hi Everyone,

Many thanks for your replies to my questions. I suppose in some cases it trial and error and what a person is personally happy with.

    Kind regards, Thomas.

I have used Hammerite smooth gold and looked pretty good. It may be a tad lighter than original but certainly looks very good in my opiinion. I beleive Nato green may be the Army colour green. This can be bought from Halfords. Best regards.

That looks fantastic. May I ask what colour you have used for your hood as I am currently restoring a guardsman myself to keep it original colours

The hood is vitreous enamel. There is no paint which will retain a gloss finish on a lantern hood.

Hello ref the Hood. I never repainted the hood. I managed at the time to purchase a new brown hood which was a very lucky purchase at the time. It was not a genuine Tilley Hood. This was a hood that somebody had reenammeled . There is a member on the forum that does do this type of work. Good luck with your task.

The Hammerite smooth gold does look nice. I must remember that when I come to fix my old Tilley which will need new paint.
