Thinking about investing, what sort of size is sufficient for lamp parts , 3L ? What functions should I look for, timer , heating controls? Wattage ? Anything to be wary of or to look for in particular ? TIA
@Beanie , yes, I'd be interested to know as well. My first thoughts were on the internal size, for example, it would have to be big enough to take the biggest globe/glass cage/frame you have. Just roughly measured the one on my Hipolito H-502 (same as a Petromax 829) and was 5 1/2" (140mm) across and 8" (200mm) tall, sowould have to be a large capacity one. Like I said, that was my first consideration, so any other thoughts welcome. Tim
I’m on my 3rd ultrasonic cleaner, bought from eBay, a few hundred dollars AU. I used it heaps 15 litres. Big enough to do the fonts and cage burners etc. get the heating one up to 50 degrees centigrade, 30 minutes timer. The problem being repeatedly was the mix vinegar water salt and detergent. It would eventually eat away the drain plumbing. Solution leaks out. Buggered it in no time. Other than that they do a great job. I still have one but drain the solution when done.
Solid advice , thanks , so waaaaay bigger than I was initially thinking , hadn’t considered a Bail / Frame , is that instead of shot blasting , sanding down ?
I have a bead blasting cabinet as well. The grit blasting can be be a bit brutal on some lanterns, it will remove the nickel plating when you don’t want it. Ultrasound for brass chrome, nickel, copper. When the cage is rusty and no chance of shiny, I blasting back to bare steel, then spray paint with silver ultra high temperature paint. Same with the collar and bale.I ultrasound the generator/ vaporiser. Jets Pricker rods etc. I clean them up afterwards with 000 steel wool. Mostly I like to keep them as natural as possible. Patina shows characteristics.
I have 6L capaciy. I bought it especially to clean/de rust inner casings, because it is really hard (for me) to do it by brush and I was determined to get rid of all rust from these parts. Hot water with citric acid solution does the job to get rid of rust. Some brushing required anyway. Tanks, frames, hoods are easy to clean, so no bigger cleaner was needed for me. all the best, Piotrek
