Hi Brian, Sorry to keep you waiting but this is what has happened to the Vapalux Handlamp frame. I have been after one of these early handlamps for many years. It just goes to show rare pieces are still out there. It has taken me a couple of days to sort it out but it is now going as well as if not better than any of my lamps. There are two examples of this lamp in the reference gallery and another on Alan Moore's site. (What happened to him?) There is another in East Yorkshire just like Steves and in it's box. The collectors who own it do not use the internet but I will try to post a pic in the next week or so. These are the only examples I know of. Please tell if you know of others....
That is rather nice. (enough to give you the dry boak) Glad you had the bits to do it justice and nobody from "the silly land" on eBay got it.
It looks better balanced for carrying with the handle a bit more in the centre compared to the hand lamp in your avatar.
Yes, the back ring leaves it at an downward angle and the front one upward, both more effective when used with a reflector. It also fits flat to a wall with a suitable fixing. No doubt designed for Military Field HQTRS/Hospital use.
I had the good fortune of seeing this hand-lamp today when I called in on Ian. This lamp is really something exceptional. Just the workmanship on the Filler cap/Pressure Guage had my attention immediatly. Took me a while to figure out what you were meaning, there. I'd always imagined these were intended to be used with a short length of chain between the rings and then the lamp suspended by another chain from somewhere along the length of the short chain. I think that would give a finer degree of control over the angle of tilt - haven't tried it, though...
This is the handlamp I referred to in the first posting, it is owned by a couple of collectors in East Yorkshire. Shown with their kind permission. Note the Vapalux marked globe with a hole, not many of those about!!
That just looks so 'right' I think (note, think) I've seen pictures of that room before - if I'm correct there's something very tasty hanging from the ceiling...
Well remembered David! There is more to come but I'll spread it out a bit. They like to keep themselves to themselves but have said I can post a few pics of their lamps.
Well, you've gotta respect that, of course - I've genuinely no idea who it is. 8) Wish I had first dibs on their stuff, though...
