Most people would have seen this online and after some negotiation I was able to secure a fair deal with the seller. This is what i've done sor far, apart from firing it up it is pretty complete and i'm really happy with the result. Astro.
That is a great addition. These are pretty special because they are not easy to find and tend to be expensive when you do. You can blame BR for that because they scrapped so many of them. Looking very good so a nice fettle and one to be proud of. ::Neil::
Astro, nice to see one in Australia. Do you know the history of the lamp? How many other collectors in Australia have one? You have done a beautiful job with its restoration
like a lot of stuff dave be nice to have one but just have to take what turns up as and when, think I could find space for one too here cheers pete
Tone, the seller was from Clacton-On-Sea and he thinks that the other Challow lamp that was sold for 2500 pounds belonged to him previously. Both were used on the LNER (London North Eastern Railway) and the one I have was at Clacton Station but I'm unsure of a date. And he said that he paid under 100 pounds for both of them many years ago. I'm unsure if anyone in Australia has one as I don't really know any collectors apart from this site. I'm pretty small fry when it comes to collecting but I do have some nice lamps and I particularly like the railway asscoiated and industrial lamps.
Astro. It sounds like you were visiting the UK and picked it up whilst over there. It is a beautiful lamp, I bet you are very proud to have it in Parkes NSW. I can see in the background of your photo's some other very interesting lamps. Well done on the restoration of the Challow it looks awesome.
Great Lamp would love one here in Albury there at least 5-6 of us Aussies on here and a few hiding in the wings. Graham ::
I've always wanted to be a Wingman. I bags that position. I'll shoot you down though if I catch you around Wollongong. Ha Ha Ha Colin
