I have had reports that the PT alert in some member's E-Mail systems has not been flagging up "New Private Topic" received. This may explain why I have not heard from some who have ordered reflector blanks. If you have ordered, Please check your PT messages and get back to me as soon as you can. My dining room is full of the things  and the wife is complaining :!: :!: - Steve.

    Hi Steve,

the reflectors, posted on Monday in the UK arrived on Wednesday in Germany, very quick!

The quality is outstanding, very good!

I managed to cut two of the three right after I unpacked them.

The photos show the result and the needed tools.

My big advantage was that I already have an original reflector of each type, so I simply used a scriber to do the markings and my Proxxon multi tool did the rest

Great work Stephan   . Let us know how you get on with the paintwork please. There is a lot of interest in what sort of paint to use and how to prepare etc. It is also going to be very interesting to see the two KL80 reflectors that were made by special request for another CPL member; they I think are going to be really spectacular for display lamps. Thanks again - Steve. PS. How did my "Guidance drawings" rate against your actual scribed method?

Steve, I notices that among the essential tools you needed to do the work, was an indispensable bottle of beer....

I wondered why mine hadn't apparently been delivered when Stephan's had. I checked my Parcelsafe to find it lurking in there - so who knows when it had been delivered. :rage:

MyHerpes operatives clearly haven't yet mastered the art of locating and ringing the doorbell - or locking the Parcelsafe - or putting a card through the door, the ****wits... ](*,)

Also in there was another parcel which had been delivered by Royal Mail so my comments apply equally to them - ****holes... ](*,)

The reflector is excellent, though, and well worth the extra wait - thanks, Steve!

I simply put an original shade upside down on the repro shade and used the scriber to mark the slots. No measurements were taken, so it is difficult to tell how I would have proceeded only with your guidance. The general problem is surely that it is not easy to take measurements on a round and domed item like those shades. Perhaps I would have used a paper with the correct marks on it as stated in your guidance to transfer the markings to the shade. I think your drawings are very helpful for someone that doesn't have originals to use as a stencil.

Thank you Stephan for your response   . Before selling them, I cut out a KL80 one myself to prove that it can be done from just the "Guidance" drawing measurements, and managed it   And I am very far from being a seasoned fettler  . I think that, following the "guidance" drawings and taking a lot of care measuring, BEFORE CUTTING, it should be within most lamp collector's ability to make them fit. Hope so anyway. Thanks again - Steve.

Hi all, This is the latest effort by myself. I have made the slots in the PL53 version. I need this to complete a SL61 Hospital Lamp Kit.

I used much the same method as the earlier KL80 reflector that I cut. But, this time I marked out the inside and outside diameters on a piece of cardboard. I then marked out vertical and horizontal axis's across. I then marked out the 60 degree axis's for the other slots.

I then placed the reflector (inside up) on the marked design and transcribed the slot dimensions to the inside of the bowl. Made a centre-punch mark to show each drilling point, and then a progression of 2 to 5mm drill holes. Next, as before, cut down to meet the hole edges, to give a 5mm wide slot. Finish off with Swiss files to get a nice smooth finish. If I can do it, I am sure that anybody can. And it fits :D/ :D/ :D/ Have not tried doing the IL33 yet though, psyching myself up for that baby   . Steve.

My batch arrived a couple of days ago. Nice job and well worth the cost. I will be making a KL80 reflector in the week from one of them. ::Neil::

Here are a couple of pictures of the PL53 blank (slots cut to my "Guidance" drawing) and fitted to my SL61 Hospital Lamp. It works fine :D/ :D/ :D/ . This Reflector is also designed to fit the PL53 Lantern. All that I need to do now is paint it white; I'll probably use Hammerite Radiator paint. To complete the SL61 outfit I then need to find a correct size tin for the spare globe (anyone got a spare one [-o< [-o< ). Had a couple of enquiries about further production runs and will do so if there is enough interest. Steve.

    Mr Shedman

Your X246 and EX4/EX100 reflectors, plus the cap for the X246 pork pie have safely arrived in Howden, Tasmania.

They are excellent!!! So good, in fact, I was wondering whether or not I might just polish up one of the stainless steel reflectors and clear-coat it with VHT and use it that way for a while to see how it goes.

I'm also sorely tempted not to paint the brass cap either.

Thanks, and please pass on my compliments to the spinner for excellent craftsmanship.

Best regards and much appreciation for your initiative,

    Tony

Thanks Tony   , but be aware that the reflectors are not Stainless Steel, just ordinary mild steel :!: . However polished and coated with a good VHT clear laqueur that may do OK :?: Also, I use the brass hood-caps just as they are, and they take on the same dark patina as the rest of the hood  , so unless you want a "shiny shiny lamp" for display only, I would not bother painting. Let us know how you get on mate.

Best regards and thank you - Steve.

That is good news David. I have just cut the slot for the Tilley X246 Reflector and show a couple of pictures for it. The X246 reflector slots can be cut to fit the early drop-loop handle (at 5mm wide) or can be cut at 14mm wide to fit the later Tilley latching handle. I am glad to say that cutting to the larger 14mm wide slots still allows the reflector to fit the earlier drop handle version. Here are the pictures - Steve.

Well; that is the end of the first production run for Tilley Repro Reflectors Blanks :content: :content: ; very well done the CPL membership   . Only one order was not honoured and that is from a non-CPL member   . I'll give him a couple of weeks and then offer his batch for sale if he does not get back to me.

I have the Reflector Blanks on the "Member's Services" forum, and can take firm orders for the next production run. I will not be able to place a contract until I have at least 30 ordered. So, there could be a bit of a wait. However, I will not ask for cash up-front but will take your order at your word. I expect that now the first rush is over, things may slow down.

I can announce though, that I can also get the Reflector Blanks made in brass, if you want a really shiny display queen version :D/ :D/ .

Just PT me with your order, after checking the "Member's Services" post, as the price has had to go up, due to production and material costs   .

Thanks to all of you for your support    Best regards - Steve.

Well, all the reflectors have been sent out to those who ordered them and all have arrived safely, as far as I know (Juan in Argentina?)

I painted mine with "Hammerite" White Gloss Radiator paint, using no primer. Gave it three coats and baked at 90C for 40 minutes in an oven. It has been in use for about 15 hours over three nights now and the paint finish is still perfect. It is available in rattle-cans or tins for brushing.

I have started a list for the next order so if you need any send me a PT. Steve.

Glad you like it Juan   .

New topic; I have now got some 4" x 6" off-cuts of the steel that the reflectors are spun from if anyone is looking for some to make brackets for those lamp reflectors that need them. PT me if you need some. Steve.

I worked this afternoon on it but I still couldn't pint it. I'll do the next weekend. Not completely bad!

It is almost complete now: the globe came from a TL. This is the first time I light this lantern. It works fine. 1376953404-ex100.jpg 1376953421-ex100light.jpg
