Hi this is a Tilley FS1 floor standard lamp not often found and a bit thin on the ground, its got the same bucket as the jackobean with a oak standard base as you can see it screws apart in a few places over all hight is 5f 3" with the lamp and 4f without. this is a very atractive lamp and one that will be on show in my house... kenny
Kenny, I'm absolutely gutted to be no longer the owner of the only known FS1. The decorative band on yours is different from mine, yours is the wide band and mine the narrow one. I wonder if the threaded bit attaching the top of the column to the main stem has been shortened as it is much longer on my lamp. Great find though, you must be chuffed to bits!
yes jean over the moon i dont know about the top being shortened but it is the hieght it is supposed to be overall ? maybe you could let us seed a photo as a comparison interesting that the buckets are different.. just checked from the top of the hex bit to the top of the bucket is 11" might just look small in pics kenny
Well, I've just checked all my FS lamps and I see the early FS1 was 5'3" tall increasing to 6'4" just before the war. FS2-4 were all the same height at 6'4". Jim Dick's book seems to agree...
I didn't mean that our lamps were a different height Kenny even if the threaded bit on yours is shorter, just that the threaded bit on mine goes quite deep into the main column.
Ahh well I didn't want to be the one to disappoint Jean which is why I won't post any pictures of the one I have here. Thats a seriously nice piece you've got there Kenny and I hope that one day I find one somewhere. I'd swap my left [strike]nut[/strike] vase lamp for one of those.
Did I forget to post the pic of the shade?? I'll paint it any colour for you Kenny. The vase that is. Lol lol Kenny
Funny how the memory plays tricks, I was sure the threaded bit on my lamp was about 4"-5" long when in fact it is only 2 1/4". I haven't had the top bit off for about 3 years. No doubt Kenny will have a suitable shade in his collection.
Thought you already had one Matthew but quite honestly I get confused about what's being discussed here - FS1s, colour of VL1s and other items! Does the fact that there are 2 known examples bring the value down do you think?
Yes well In my dreams I've got a lot of lamps Jean. Jim dicks book is basically a check list. We could have a dedicated FS1 owners club forum but I think the members might get a bit lonely.
