I have forgotten exactly which period this was, but I'm sure most people in here can tell me. I will edit the subject afterwards if the 40's is incorrect. Fount marked with G.W.R., which if I recall correctly was for Great Western Railway.
Hi christer nice PL you have there think it would be earley 40s i like the picture you have of it lit in the snow great cheers pete
Thanks Pete! Yes, I like to take photos of my lanterns in the snow. It can give pretty nice images sometimes.
Hi Christer, This one looks to be the same as the one I've just finished, though mine has a steel tank & steel bale arm coil. I can't tell what is written/ stamped, around the externals of the tanks base ridge, but there's a 'match head' size, of some type of mark (not a missing chunk, for deffo, they're numerals & digits). The lamp didn't come with a hood & cowl, so I managed to snatch a decent one, from a parts PL53, on Ebay; this one is the full brass plate type (it's nice but not the original). The burner however, was I think the original, it's the type with the longer burner trunk & the diagonal pattern, rib marking band, around the domes cup. I want to load some pictures, for viewing (still to take them though yet), I can't fully understand why the cage & onion globe, look way too near the vaporizers stop cock, because the vap's a 5 incher; this maybe not the correct length, & as such, is causing too much of a tight squeese area, to slot in & pre-heat with the torch ? There'll be no room for the smart Ozi fly guard, I wanted to show it off with (crumbs) ! A 7 " Vap, on Ebay's around 30 spondoolies, but I know it'd look much better, with it all given more height. Bit skint ATM . . .. . . I've not cracked it up burning yet, it just looks too amazing, despite the strange or un-original build, I finally knocked together with every thing. Could you give me some pointers please, on how I should label this model, for uploading ? I've looked in the Terry Marsh site, & a visual cross reference, tends to show a pre- 1939 model, looking nearer to mine than most ? Well, I didn't like these that much, prior to this mission, but I definitely do now; it's funny how certain lanterns eventually start to please, whilst at first glance, they looked too ghastly a design. I'll get on with pictures then, in the mean time & 'yes' your right, lighting & taking cam shots of them, when its snowed/ or snowing, is top fun ! (barring rust threat, afterwards). Cheers, Jon.
