Just tried my 222 lantern and it is leaking from the o ring in the fuel on/off knob, has anyone got details of what size it is or got a spare one?
Right I have measured the spindle that the o ring sits on (see attached) it needs to be petrol proof.
I have tried using an online o ring guide but its a bit confusing, do we have any experts on the team?
Measure the dia of hole it sits inside as well please. There are calculators/guides online for o-rings. It depends on the material, there is a certain 'fit' depending on the degree of compression and cross-sectional area. We'll be looking at Viton and being Coleman from the imperial series most likely. This O ring and the way it is fitted are the main reason I really don't like these lanterns. They are prone to failure, I have had two leak on me so far, and I no longer trust the beast. You may be able to tighten it by pushing the clip a notch further on but the best option is to find a genuine Coleman O ring rather than try to find a non standard replacement. The right ring is engineered to have the right fit and compression to make a sound seal. ::Neil::
Good advice regarding the O ring lads, I reckon that I will just have to wait until a proper o ring comes along rather than rely on luck. I cannot even see the part listed in the parts manuals online so I do not hold out much hope.
Thanks for that link, this is the nearest I can find but it has no details on sizes, what do you reckon?
One of those might fit. I woold use the contact form and ask specifically for the Peak 1 valve O ring. ::Neil::
Hello "iwoo" et al Here is a good LINK to the 222/226/229.. model 'O' rings, Fluorosilicone 'O'rings in sizes 005/007/009 to cover the range. They shouldn't be assembled dry, i.e. use 'O'lube or similar. Cheers ThosL
Thank everyone I have got some good information there, I have contacted the old coleman parts guy for advice also, brilliant.
Sorry Alec I need to get into the garage to measure the groove diameter work and other stuff gets in the way , In the meantime things I can do whilst having a cup of tea at work, The old Coleman parts have that Canadian set which they inform me contain 2 of the washers I would need so, for $5 I would at least get the OEM spec washers, that will give me some confidence when I come to take a match to it. Looking at the design of the o ring between me and a fireball I guess its one lantern that Is definitely not going in the awning when it gets chilly.
Hello, Here is the summary from my LINK , it is from post #23 "005 - 3/32" ID x 7/32" OD - Fits the e-block on older Canadians and US models - my 222 and 226 used this 007 - 5/32" ID x 9/32" OD - Fits the e-block on the new models - my 229 uses this 009 - 7/32" ID x 11/32" OD - Fits the valve on all models" Thank you "Sobright" I hope you don't mind me quoting you. Cheers ThomasL
Alec, I had already given the diameter of the groove the O ring sits in at 5.92 mm, the length of the groove is 2.41 mm.
Hello, As these lanterns and parts were mass produced in North America o, they wouldn't have used the metric system, so searching for 'O'rings in non_metric dimensions would be fundermentally easier. Cheers ThomasL
I got the set of 3 blue 'O' rings from the Old Coleman parts place, good service and well packaged so thanks to them, I used silicon grease to help it into place, lamp is now fully functioning and ready for a bit of outdoor only light when I am away in the Caravan.
