Tilley 246 Pork Pie

    Just finished restoring this lamp not seen another pork pie with the extended legs and burner

    Those pillars and preheater arrangement are BR49. I was not aware that they were available in the pork pies. Very nice restoration!

    That's a fine restoration - and I love the "pork pies".

    I had always assumed that the Tilley BR49 had post-dated the pork pie tank which would mean the cage extensions and vapouriser were fitted "aftermarket". I'm happy to be corrected on that score, though.

    Is there any indication this lamp was used by British Rail? If it was, then this may have been done in the workshop to bring the pork pie X246 into the same configuration as the BR49.

    I have seen Pictures in brochures somewhere of BR pre Heaters on pl53 1940's

    Perhaps the title could be changed to BR49 Pork Pie? Let's see who chimes in then...

    Not seen this before and I am not convinced it is correct. If Tilley had made them like this then there would be more survivors so it has to be an aftermarket conversion. Looks pretty good though. ::Neil::

    I agree i think i read somewhere that tilley sold the parts separately so i'm guessing its an after market upgrade i'm happy with it it looks great next to my real BR49
