I found a lovely PL series lamp at the car boot yesterday, very cheap. problem is i cant seem to accurately identify it,it clearly is a PL series but the handle has no spring type grip and no cage to support the globe ,so common guru's tell me lots about it!

i thought it was clearly a PL series but now think it could be an EX series with a pl series hood.

Well it could be the cheap version of the PL53. How is the glass held in place?

the air buttons have springs and keep the glass in place.

It's a WW2 PL-53 and the springs which are holding the glass in are most likely the work of a previous owner.

I agree with an EX100 with a PL hood, however the globe retention by springs attached to the air buttons sounds like an after market modification.
For ten quid, you have done well.

No these are not EX100. I agree that the tank and handle are as EX100 but that had a 449 hood and a reflector. With this hood and no reflector this is PL53 made and sold here during WW2. ::Neil::

Here is my PL53, the wartime version with the steel tank. I have since re-sprayed it in the nearest colour to RAF blue that I could find, and added a modern reflector.
