This is a reproduction of a Tilley VL1 vase lamp. Made by Malcolm West a few years back. Machined out of a solid lump of stainless steel for the tank and another solid lump of nylon for the vase. The base plate and top plates are screwed on and then were solder sealed and I took these images before Malcolm had done the final assembly. I acquired this from Malcolm last year and I was very pleased to have it. It is very heavy and will stand a deal more pressure than the originals will. Also because of the materials used it is virtually unbreakable so I don't mind hauling it around to displays Etc. Malcolm made two of these, the other has a vase machined out of aluminium and is painted black. I don't generally approve of repro items like this but because of the materials used and the lack of a pressure tit there is no possibility of this being mistaken for the real thing. Malc did tell me recently that there was no way he would ever make another one because of the cost of materials and more importantly the time it took to make them so please don't ask. ::Neil::

Lovely bit of machine work there. Just wondering if the brass top section has been soldered on or threaded with a very fine thread ? This would be a nice one to light up often !
    Regards

Malcolm told me that both top and bottom were fine threaded and then sealed. Top with solder and bottom welded.

Yes I don't mind taking this to display and run. It is near indestructible and can take a huge pressure so I can pump 'till it hurts and get a great light. ::Neil::

Malc had it relegated to his shed and had taken up a greater interest in the heaters so he offered it to me. Mostly my dealings with hin were me giving lamps ans such in exchange for machine work. I think this is the only lamp to come the other way. Handy though because I can take a vase to a display without worrying about damage. ::Neil::
