    G'day forum,

Can anybody tell me about the Gloria lamp pictured centre below, all three are up for sale near me and I'm considering buying it.

It would be great to get some details about the model and any opinions on it.

    Cheers.

    @Ned's Head

    Mmm... look after that one!!!

I might have one in my distant pile in Melbourne, but I’ll go out to the shed tomorrow and see if I’ve got something similar.

    Cheers

    Thanks Tony,

I'm still trying to secure the deal, it sure is a nice looking lamp and I'll consider your request but I can't promise anything.

    Cheers.

It would be a great shame for that lantern to leave Australia.

    Cheers

I suggest you also grab the lamp on the right. It looks like a Coleman 236 model , 500cp, probably made in Canada. The sea foam vent and original globe are appealing. I have 3 of them here in " The Great White North ". The manufacturing date will be under the Coleman insignia.

The one on the right is a Coleman 249. Careful with that globe, they sometimes crack spontaneously just from being washed in luke warm water.

    Thanks Neil,

but I won't celebrate until I've exchanged cash and it's in my hands.

I'll do a bit of searching on the model W and see what comes up.

    Thanks

I'm having some trouble lighting the lantern and would like a bit of assistance troubleshooting, (I'm brand new to lanterns)

First of all is the preheater, how does the Gloria preheater work? when I open the valve I can hear it hissing and the fount loses pressure quickly, but there's nothing to catch alight, is it suppose to supply straight kero to beside the vaporiser? (maybe I'm running it to low on kero..)

My second issue is a lot of kerosene leaking from the top of the vapouriser as I'm heating it with the torch while the fuel valve is shut off, everything seems fine until I apply some heat to the vaporiser, and when I do light the vapor I just end up with everything in flames, and sometimes I get vaporised fuel pouring out down the air intake.

Is that likely a bad seal, or maybe a blockage somewhere?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Ben

The Gloria is a Gas as in shellite /coleman fuel lamp, the thin pipe beside the vaporiser /Generator is for heating same and may need to run all the time when operating.

Well that would explain why I can't get the thing to run properly:doh:

I'll find somewhere that stocks shellite tomorrow and try again, thanks

I do not know how much money the lamp trio cost you but you obtained a vintage Coleman with sea foam lamp, original globe and in great shape!! Enjoy.

I'll make sure to bring it when we meet up, I hope to have some free time soon but I'm not quite sure when that will be, if this week goes well I might be free Thursday/Friday, I'll give you a call and let you know.

    Cheers
