A lovely find which looks like it needs little to have it up and running.

It should clean up well and give you many years of good service.

    Regards Jeremy

Not an R1. They have the smaller tank.
    Perhaps an R55?

    Welcome to the forum.

You light them exactly the same as a Tilley storm lantern although you may need to preheat twice if you don't have the draught shield.

    Regards Jeremy

Are the parts the same as the Tilley lamp?

With the exception of the burner and mantle all parts are the same although it does require the longer 7" vaporiser. Service kits are available from Ross (spiritburner, the site owner) at The Fettlebox, see third ad down at the top right of each page.

    Regards Jeremy

Before I polish the reflector does anyone know how thick the plating is? Would autosol be to aggressive?

Autosol should not be too aggressive. But I would first clean with soap and water and use the Autosol sparingly to finish the job.

Finally started to fettle the heater today, replaced all the gaskets, did some polishing, painting and repaired the fuel gauge.

It's a bit chilly here today -13 currently but it was -20 went I went out to the garage this morning. The R-55 does give a pleasant heat while I'm 20190103_120550.jpg waiting for the furnace to do it's job, I snapped this picture while I was up at the store getting fuel.

Well, over here in Cape Town it is quite warm. Enough so to be uncomfortable wearing any more than just shorts, no shirt. (at home; I would put on a shirt to go out though)
