HI all here is a Standard Momento 6012 I just received The nickel is not in very shape and the lamp is a little twisted but the main problem is the missing black knob does anyone is able to do some pictures and measurements ? I should like to try to do another one with a bakelite block and a numeric command machine
@Michel Lovely old lantern. I hope someone has the information you require. Good luck and please keep use informed of progress. Regards Jeremy
Your lantern looks like mine, not in the best shape The frame of my 5022 is cracked several times and the nickel coating is only very thin. The frame of .
Hi all This lamp has been on the shelf for a long time A friend remade the controller with a PC and a digital cutting device according to the dimensions given by @leo I obviously had to change the different seals Here is the old lady: she is a little wrinkled but she works very well, tomorrow she will receive a mantle Maybe I should take the old nickel off
You're fortunate to have CNC machining equipment at your expense. Any missing knobs can be machined out from blocks of reinforced bakelite. Heat-pressurized bakelite moulding would not be a feasible choice for most of us.
By the way @leo here is the black knob, that my friend drew and made according to your dimensions, yes @MYN it is a real advantage the handle was cut from an old pot handle I still have a problem I should like to ask to the PX lovers : the preheater won't stay on if I don't leave the match in front of the ignition hole. There is no alcohol cup on these Standards The flame comes off and goes out is the preheater hole enlarged? Or another problem?
Very nice job. Try operating the rapid preheater at a little lower pressure to reduce chances of the flame blowing itself out.
@Michel - Ideas of things to look at re: rapid heater and apologies if you already have. 1) check alignment of the flame pipe - if this is not sitting in line with the jet it can lead to flame-outs. I had a loose pipe on a hipolito solved with some lock wire wrapped about the part that sits on the nozzle. 2) Make sure all holes in the heater are clear - if it is like a petromax - under the nozzle there will be a hole in the middle and two smaller ones either side. These can be blocked. 3) lastly - like you say the jet may be enlarged. I have been told by others on this board that they almost never wear out - but can be damaged by people.. If you can find out what size it should be you might be able to measure it using acupuncture needles as go/no-go gauges. Also: In this earlier post (scroll down) there are lighting instructions Standard Momento 6012. In this it says to only open the rapid starter 1/4 turn with the pressure gauge on 2 1/2. Hopefully something useful here. Chris
I dismantled and cleaned the preheater in the ultrasonic cleaner I haven't seen anything wrong ....but it works now
this lamp is running with a very big mantle from Aladdin she is supposed to be a 400 CP but I think the jet to be a little enlarged This was my last, I bought those mantles some years ago does somebody knows where to find such Aladdin's mantles ?
@Michel - Great news ! I use 500cp mantles on both my 350 and 500cp optimus lanterns. It does not seem to make much difference. I use genuine petromax helox or locally bought thorium mantles. the Luxor mantles also sold with Petromax are rated at 400-600 HK. I have not seen Aladdin mantles of that rating for sale online anywhere for a long time
Well to a certain extent they seem to end up the right size on first burning. I would be tempted to try the Luxor and I would like to hear how they work out C
That is a funny shape - was it one of the 500HK ones ? I would expect it to be more round once you have used it.
Maybe the pressure was too low on the first lighting. I use the ones from Julian: https://www.tilleylampsandstoves.com/product-page/inverted-mantle-kerosene-lamp-mantle If you PM me an address I will post you one to try. cheers Chris
Lantern looks good now. I also have some of those Aladdin mantles. I got them as a test from a guy called Jürgen. He was involved in the making of them. The mantles are very strong too or at least mine where.
It was obviously partially blocked at the centre(fuel) outlet hole. They're tiny. What you'd get from a partial blockage on the fuel hole but no blockage at the air outlets:- you'd still get a blue flame when you have a lighted match or lighter to sustain it but once you move the lighted match or lighter away, the air from the rapid preheater would easily blow out its own flame. As for mantles, any 500-600cp ones would work as well. There are cheap Butterfly mantles available online. These are quite bright but they might not be as strong as the more expensive ones. Nevertheless, they are current production mantles and you won't run out of these so soon. And with prices so low that no one would bother to complain.
