Hi guys. I know this may well have been covered (I have searched unsuccessfully) but I have a 246 B and although I purchased it a few months ago after it had received a full seal change I used it yesterday only to discover that when I pumped it up the pumping rod started to creep out on its own. I pushed it back in and out it came again. Any thoughts.
Hi David, The NRV needs to be serviced. There are several options to look at. 1. Fettlebox Tilley Washer Kit - The Fettlebox 2. Tilley Lamp Service pack 1 Here's a schematic of both the pump and control cock. It's always good to service both. Also what the service kit. I hope this information helps. Cheers, Norman
Hi David, the rubber seal in the non-return valve at the end of the pump is not doing it's job. Have a close look at it, it may not be seating properly because a) they are poorly made or, b) there may be a speck of dirt on it. Whilst it's apart, try stretching the spring a little. You could also clean / polish the end of the pump tube with 0000 gauge wire wool. edit: Crossed with Norman. Henry.
Sincerest apologies but after studying the diagrams kindly put on this thread I realised I should have said 246 A not B. Really sorry for the confusion, something of a senior moment. Obviously this will change a few things as some of odds and ends wil be marginally different.
Hi David, Refer to the Fettlebox link and images posted by @Norman, you'll see that the only difference is the shape of the rubber pip in the valve. Those supplied by Fettlebox are a disc which sits in a brass cup, the later ones are shaped so that they sit directly in the spring. Henry.

I have this evening successfully halted the creep. Thank you everyone for the advise. I took out the new seal and reseated it with a little more enthusiasm and that seems to have put pay to it.
