Brilliant, Martin! You did an amazing job.
Glad you figured it out Nils. They are rather awesome and rather thirsty too. Use the biggest 500cp sock type mantle you can find. The very old...
A fine acquisition, Colin! The Little Red Lantern is an American classic.
I measure 45mm collar height on the Radius 119 and 40,5mm on the Bialaddin 300X.
As long as your collar is the exact same height as the original collar. It is the collar height that determines the air gap.
I prefer taller lamps with shades on the table. The light shines down rather than sideways.
Cut out the bung, fuel filler and pump before throwing it out, they could be useful later. (like in making a beer keg lantern ;))
It can be rather annoying when the average 200cp Optimus is brighter than the average 300cp Tilley
I have always thought that Optimus were pushing the limits a bit on the 930 and even more so on the rare 350cp 930 variant. More so on the amount...
While it is always interesting to read of peoples experiences and experiments with lamps, for any serious investigation it is useful though...
The Optimus 930 is a 300cp lantern and uses a 300cp jet. Using a 200cp jet would theoretically mean a 33% leaner mixture which may cause problems...
Sawing off seems a rather radical and permanent modification, as replacement J-tubes for the 930 are not readily available. It could be a good...
The 288 fount has the bung in the center but the 214 has the bung offset to the side.
I would still like to know what the actual cause of the problem is. Maybe you could pop it in the mail to one of the members with engineering...
Hi @DarkWispa , you are starting a most worthy and rewarding project. Your 1015 can use the same 10 inch fitter shade as is used on Aladdin mantle...
A boroscope to examine the inside of the fount may help you to decide whether to repair or replace. I suspect it was lying on its side with the...
Wonderful, Reinhard! What are the dimensions, mass and light output ? Did you need to do a lot of restoration on it?
I mis-spoke above. It should read: "The 214 fount is in fact the same size as that of the 282 and 288." But they are not identical as the 282...
The 214 fount is in fact the same as that of the 282 and 288. It is quite a bit smaller than a 220 fount. The bung is also offset.
Indeed! Cooler weather and longer lamp hours are always a good thing.
