Well Aussie Pete' as your message come though I was pondering that very question with the Canadian, short term fix is plumbing tape(Ptf) is it called the gas type is best, I think mackburner made mention. But the long term Mike @ oldcolemanparts is a very helpful chap an can be trusted to see you right. Alex
You can use graphite sheet or snippets from another graphite seal and just pack them into the gland nut around the spindle. When you tighten the nut it will compress the bits into the ferrule shape. You may need to do it twice to get a long enough ferrule. Works perfectly. Cigar Mike even sells strips of graphite sheet for that purpose.
PTFE - polytetrafluoroethylene. And yes, you need the gas type which is more expensive than the ordinary type...
Good point David. I’m going to ask Mike @ oldcolemanparts the question. I’m sure he’s had others ask for 249 seals. Somewhere, I did see that someone has suggested that the 327/427 size packing is the same size as the 249 .......... will let you know the outcome.
@AussiePete I have some graphite sheet that I bought off a member here ( @Trojandog ). I use it for all my gland nut packing. It is excellent! If you’d like me to send you some to try, I will. Tony
