Thanks @Reinhard and all, good to confirm the date and will replace with a normal Petromax valve, and I can order a spirit cup at the same time as it’s missing. Never used a rapid preheater, keen to give it a go!! I’ll just have to be patient...
jumping on this thread to ask a question on the NRV in my 829. i was doing a little fettle today as the pump likes to rise under pressure. is it possible to replace the PIP in this? the spring seems fine., and it’s nice and clean.
@Tyler Hall I thought I got mine from www.fettlebox.co.uk but I can’t see them on the website. Maybe send them an email. Also available here: Petromax Spares Price List
@Tyler Hall After a thorough cleaning of the metal parts you could simply replace the rubber insert of the valve with a self-punched one made of Viton (or other petrol-resistant material), as the original one has probably hardened, at least on its surface. You could also try to carefully remove the existing insert and replace it upside down.
Yes you can change the pip seal. You can even flip the rubber out and replace it "upside down". Unless the rubber is harden solid over time.
As you are in the U.S., this alternative may save you time and postage will be cheaper. Check valve cone-part#17
Search the Fettle box in stove parts for NRV 4mm pip and 4.5mm pip. I can't remember which fits the Petromax NRV but I'm pretty sure one of them does. ::Neil::
thanks all, much appreciated. I was able to break out the old crusty pip and fashion a silicon button to replace it. It works. Will be looking for Viton as a permanent solution.
