Well with some help from @Jean J and a new globe from basecamp it's now a working 1938 lamp.
I fitted a coleman mantle and fired it up and I'm astounded how brilliant it is for such a small lamp.
I have a twin mantle coleman I bought new years ago and you just pump it up then open the valve and light it almost like a gas lamp, this one tends to flair up at first,
I took off the filler cap then removed the needle from the generator and put the compressed air nozzle onto the tube and blew air backwards through it to backflush it but still tricky, has anyone experienced this?
Could it need a new generator?
    It burns great when lit.
