Yes, I did know Anthony and bid for one a year ago. Unfortunately by that time prices had soared for them and it went for over $400. They are absolutely beautiful and the colours so much nicer than the Crown Devon wishy washy orange!
@ColinG , if it has not already been said above, the wicks tend to be model-specific due to slight differences in the tabs or pins that attach to the winding mechanism. The mantles are pretty much universal and any mantle should fit any of the burners you have. I would recomment avoiding the mantles in the red boxes as I have had a few develop cracks soon after burn-in. The older mantles in the orange/yellow boxes are much better. The 12 inch chimneys are intended for use at low altitudes and the 14" chimneys for higher altitudes. 14" chimneys cannot be used at sea level as the lamp will always run away and blacken the chimney and ceiling. 12" chimneys will not provide enough draught (read: oxygen) for good light output at higher altitudes. There were two distinct categories of burners (and founts): The older better centre draught type where air comes in from around the fount base and is drawn up through the centre of the fount and burner, and the newer side draught types which draw air from the sides of the burner through its center and up.
If you start getting into Aladdin lamps then a good book to get is "Aladdin The Magic Name in Lamps - Revised Edition".
Stop! There are still so many Tilley lamps I would like to have without drooling over other makes, and especially wick lamps. I’ve already started to covet more Coleman lamps also anything with a blue hood!
@Jean J That's the rub, they’re all good. Perhaps it’s to do with our need for light, or maybe the smell of paraffin?
@Jean J I share your fondness for blue hoods... in fact blue lanterns period. The Rothmans Vapalux is one particularly nice but rare example but you could combine your love of blue enamel with Coleman lanterns by searching out Sears rebranded Coleman models which are often (always?) blue. @Norman certainly has a nice example.
