Petromax has a couple of expensive models with wire and plug - I don't know if they use LED or another kind of light bulb.

Maybe the LED lantern market is too difficult to make a business of - because everybody can make them and the parts cost almost nothing. I just checked eBay and found tons of Chinese LED lanterns at just a few dollars each. Coleman somehow manages to maintain a higher price level, but for how long? And then we have the traditional battery manufacturers like Duracell, Varta and Rayovac trying to get their piece of the cake with a couple of small and relatively low priced models.

Inventiveness in the LED area could pay off, though, and there are now many new/strange concepts - like hat lamps and flat tent roof lamps - of which probably some will be found attractive by the buyers.

I agree with you that Tilley or the others could benefit from a nostalgic lantern, looking like the real thing but utilising LEDs - if the price is sufficiently low. Such a device would probably be manufactured in China and just labeled in the UK. I too find that it could be interesting to know if they have been there already...

Like Coleman, UCO, and others, also Trangia had a kind of candle based lantern: http://www.trangia-central.com/trangia-accessories.html, which is also kind of development (even though they have been around for quite many years now) - but of course, Trangia never made pressure lamps so perhaps they should not be counted here.
