NL represents “No Letter”. It’s not an official Coleman designation, but one used by Coleman Collectors that fits the very first of the 242 series, before the 242A.
    Cheers

it means no letter as the collar just says model 242. now the others say model 242a,242b and 242c. how is your little 2242 doing?

Poor wee thing has been banished to the pig hoosie (out house) along with all my other Coleman lanterns as I had no room in the hall for them. Hoping John will make up a larger display stand once we do some decorating.

“Outhouse” in American means the outside toilet...

You mean the ootside lavvie Tony? John and I were both brought up with these and often reminisce about the joys - the dark, the cold, also the rats!

In Aus it's the Redback spiders under the seat (and I have used one with a possum who paid night visits)

    Yes, Jean. One of these:

In Australia it’s known as a “dunny” or a “thunder box”.

    Cheers

Yes, that’s the one Tony but it seems we were lucky to have just rats to worry about.

The outside dunny brings back mixed memories especially on a cold winter’s morning, rain lashing the rattling door, water running in under the door wetting your pants wrapped around your muddy wet boots .........
Summer brings along the wealth of insects, spiders and snakes that all want to assist in making your deposit time eventful.
    Ahh!
Not forgetting the squares of newspaper sheets impaled on a string used to rasp away any residue.
The nostalgia, it’s enough to give you the sh*@#. :-#
    Cheers
    Pete

In Shetland the outside toilet was called Da Peerie Hoose.
